A year ago (8 December 2008) Oliver Postgate died. I’m a huge fan of his films and wanted to add a small tribute to a wonderfully creative person. Postgate, and Peter Firmin set up Smallfilms in a disused cowshed at Firmin’s home in Blean near Canterbury, Kent. Using simple stop-frame animation they went on to create Ivor the Engine, Noggin the Nog, Pogles Wood, The Clangers and Bagpuss along with a few other less well known but still delightful children’s programmes.

Postgate narrated most of the stories, his voice is one of the most recognisable in children’s TV.

Postgate was a pacifist and protester against nuclear proliferation and broadcast, spoke and meetings and published booklets on the subject. His autobiography, Seeing Things, was published in 2000.
